“Enzymes are responsible for life. Without enzymes, life is not possible… ”
—Dr Loomis
Dr. Howard Loomis Jr, DC, FIACA graduated from the Logan Chiropractic College in 1967 and is a pioneer in the science of digestion. He founded the Food Enzyme Institute (FEI) where he continues his research and remains an expert in the field of food enzymes and plant enzyme supplementation.
Food enzymes are large molecules that are made in plants and animals and are found in all living substances. Our bodies make a finite number of digestive enzymes but our modern diets tend to exhaust our supplies. Nutrient deficiency in the diet has been postulated as the major cause of chronic disease in this country.
Although enzymes have been approved by the FDA as food supplements for over 50 years, many doctors remain unaware of the dietary importance of digestive enzymes. Pharmaceutical companies cannot patent natural products and therefore invest little in research.
While enzymes taken between meals will stimulate the immune system, supplemental enzymes taken with meals will aid in the digestion of the food. Antacids and proton pump inhibitors actually retard digestion and assimilation of nutrients, and can cause insidious long-term effects.
Recent studies show a strong relationship between the brain and gastrointestinal function. The enteric nervous system of the gastrointestinal system communicates with the brain in a bi-directional manner thus affecting developmental delays and a myriad of other problems.
We have several methods to assist consumers with this digestive puzzle. The “Signs and Symptoms” questionnaire was designed by the FEI (Food Enyzme Institute) to target causes of stress leading to digestive difficulties. Specific physical examination protocols and other testing pinpoints causes of stress and allows us to identify the proper supplements to assist diet, digestion, bowel function, immunity, and other systems.
At times it may be necessary to identify food sources that would be better eliminated for a period of time to allow the body to heal. Cell Science Systems provides specific blood testing to define allergic reactions to foods and other materials.
